Douglas Golf Club was named the Golf Club of the Year 2016 at the recent Cork Business Awards. The 10th Annual Cork Business Awards were presented at a gala black tie dinner in the Conference Centre at the Clayton Hotel Silversprings with over 500 people in attendance from all aspects of business in Cork. Special guests on the night were Minister Simon Coveney and ex British MP Edwina Currie.

A new award for Golf Club of the Year was added for the first time this year. Douglas Golf Club was the inaugural winner of the 2016 Golf Club of the Year Award in recognition of the quality provided by the Club both on and off the course for its members and visitors.

Officers and Management of Douglas attended the awards ceremony to accept the award on behalf of the Club. Speaking after the presentation, Douglas President Tony Barry said that it was a great honour for Douglas Golf Club to be selected as the 2016 Golf Club of the Year and the first winner of this award.

Douglas was founded in 1909 and today, over 100 years later, the Club continues to go from strength to strength, both in terms of the quality of its golf course and most importantly the quality and variety of the social activities and atmosphere within the Club. 2016 has been a terrific year for Douglas. During the year the Club completed the purchase of an additional 7.5 acres adjoining the course, while its members recently approved a major redevelopment/renovation of its Clubhouse and the building of a new Pro Shop and teaching facility.
