Dear Member,

I would like to thank everyone for their kind and warm welcome to Douglas Golf Club as your new General Manager. I would also like to thank my predecessor Conor O Brien, for helping me with my transition and for everything he has done for the club throughout his tenure in office.

As you are aware, we have a number of exciting projects on the horizon this season, none more so than the redevelopment of our clubhouse, with works tentatively scheduled to begin on the week commencing August 12th. In order to facilitate this process, it will mean the re-location of the club’s day to day operations to temporary facilities in or around the existing bungalow and I hope to have more detailed information on this matter over the coming weeks.

In terms of day to day activities, many of you will have noticed the seasonal wear and tear impact the high volumes of traffic have had on the course, over the past couple of months. While these issues are only temporary, I can assure you that Peter and his team are pro-actively addressing this issue and already we are seeing good signs of recovery. That said, the putting green remains closed, for now, to allow for remedial works in preparation for the long golfing season ahead. Coring and heavy sanding of greens is now largely completed while a considerable number of on course trees (180) have also been strategically planted during recent weeks.

On the social front, the President’s Committee have been very busy promoting “club” activities, inside the clubhouse. Beyond the course activities, like the Officers drive-in, to the new members evening as well as the many rugby match promotions, are an equally important part of club life and more and more it is wonderful to witness people recognising this fact by supporting these occasions. Special praise must be given to chef Ger and his team for the quality and value of their food offering and also to Hugh and his team behind the bar, all of whom offer great service with a friendly smile.

The next Social occasion is the Special Menu and Music Night on March 16th, to celebrate St. Patrick's Weekend, followed by the Table Quiz on Friday, March 22nd.

It should also be noted that the 2018 Yearbook is now out.
